D1 CIF Champions

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

First we ask that you vote for our very own Paige Echsner for Mile Split Performer of the Week! You can vote everyday. On Saturday we hosted our final home meet of the season, the last time our seniors would compete at home in Del Norte Uniforms. All of the Division 1 teams in San Diego got together for Divisional CIF Finals. Of the 24 teams competing our girls took the team title for the first time in school history, by a landslide. With a score of 101 to the 2nd place team’s 69. We are so proud of the girls for their hard work this season and putting it together on the day! The boys finished 6th of 26 teams with many incredible performances! Find meet results here. We had 2 D! champions, 20 medalists, countless PRs and so many Nighthawks moving on to CIF San Diego Section finals this Saturday! We are all responsible for helping out this weekend so we could use the help of athletes to keep the meet moving smoothly and allow the coaches to focus on getting our athletes what they need to pull of a team win! Keep reading for more highlights.

Athletes of the Meet - League Finals

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet.

Hurdles -

  • Tea Pidding (10) still so early in her hurdling career, sets new PRs in both of her events, moving on in the 300 hurdles and an alternate in the 100 hurdles as a first year hurdler!

Jumps -

  • Naja Fonseca (12) our new Palomar League Champion in Long Jump, Naja broke a long standing school record with a mark of 17’10”.

Coaches Ann and Mayumi would also like to recognize our female jumpers as a team for the way they work together and pull each other up. Every member of our Girls Team who competed in horizontal jumps at League Finals set a personal record on Saturday - Sevanna Collins (LJ), Vicky Akinpelu (TJ), Maddie Do (LJ), Naja Fonseca (LJ & TJ).

Our Next Meet

On Saturday we are home again for San Diego Section CIF Finals at Mt Carmel High School. Athletes not competing we need your help to keep the meet moving smoothly. Also, parking at Mt Carmel is very limited, plan to arrive with plenty of extra time to accommodate parking.

Informations to qualify for state:

The top three athletes/relay teams from each event qualify for the state meet.  You do not have to be in the top heat or flight to qualify.  The top three marks overall qualify.  In addition, any athlete or team that meets or betters the state auto mark also qualifies for the state meet.

House Keeping

  • I am asking for a $250 parent donation to help offset our team costs.  As always Athlete's are not required to "pay to play", however, this $250 donation would help cover essential program costs.  If you are able to donate you can do so in a variety of ways.

    • Via Venmo using @DNHSATHLETICFOUNDATION - Please put "Track & Field" and your athletes name in the comments

    • Via Sports Engine HERE

    • Via Check - Please make the check payable to the Del Norte Athletic Foundation and put track and field and your athletes name in the memo.  Checks must be given to my parent liaison Jim Echsner.

  • Everyone not moving on to CIF Finals should have already turned their uniform in to Coach Jacobs. Anyone who does not will be fined by the front office.

  • End of Season Banquet

    • Date - Tuesday June 3rd at 6PM

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
