CIF Finals Here We Go!

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

First we ask that you vote for our very own Paige Echsner for Athlete of the year! Our girls sealed the deal at our final Dual Meet against RB and for the 2nd year in a row are Palomar League Team Champions! The boys also won that meet and finished 2nd in the league after two teams that tied for first. Find meet results for DNHS vs RB here. Last weekend we headed over to Mt Carmel for League Finals (results here). We had 7 league champions, multiple runner ups, 44 medalists, countless PRs and so many Nighthawks moving on to CIF Division 1 finals this Saturday! D1 Finals will be at Del Norte, we could use the help of parents and athletes to keep the meet moving smoothly and allow the coaches to focus on getting our athletes what they need to pull of a team win! Keep reading for more highlights.

Athletes of the Meet - League Finals

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet.

Hurdles -

  • Tea Pidding (10) still so early in her hurdling career, sets new PRs in both of her events, moving on in the 300 hurdles and an alternate in the 100 hurdles as a first year hurdler!

Jumps -

  • Naja Fonseca (12) our new Palomar League Champion in Long Jump, Naja broke a long standing school record with a mark of 17’10”.

Coaches Ann and Mayumi would also like to recognize our female jumpers as a team for the way they work together and pull each other up. Every member of our Girls Team who competed in horizontal jumps at League Finals set a personal record on Saturday - Sevanna Collins (LJ), Vicky Akinpelu (TJ), Maddie Do (LJ), Naja Fonseca (LJ & TJ).

Congratulations to all of those athletes on a great meet. We would like to take the time to recognize those athletes whose performance landed them onto our top 10 all-time lists. Because they did not have a wind-gauge at this meet, our sprinters and jumpers performances cannot be counted towards school records and all-time performances. We know they have it in them and will be able to even surpass these marks in future competitions!

Our Next Meet

On Saturday we are home again for Division 1 CIF Finals. Athletes not competing we need your help to keep the meet moving smoothly. Athlete Volunteer Shifts. Reminder parents, we need your help too, Parent Volunteer Sign Up.

Both the boys and girls team are in the mix for a potential team title so we need everyone competing to the best of their abilities! Go Nighthawks!

House Keeping

  • I am asking for a $250 parent donation to help offset our team costs.  As always Athlete's are not required to "pay to play", however, this $250 donation would help cover essential program costs.  If you are able to donate you can do so in a variety of ways.

    • Via Venmo using @DNHSATHLETICFOUNDATION - Please put "Track & Field" and your athletes name in the comments

    • Via Sports Engine HERE

    • Via Check - Please make the check payable to the Del Norte Athletic Foundation and put track and field and your athletes name in the memo.  Checks must be given to my parent liaison Jim Echsner.

  • Everyone not moving on to D1 Finals should have already turned their uniform in to Coach Jacobs. Anyone who does not will be fined by the front office.

  • Be sure you are following us on Instagram! We share meet photos, meet recap reels, live updates and more there. @DelNorte_xctf

  • Calling all DNHS T+F Alumni, fill out this form to be included on our alumni page!

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
